climate change is happening...
Climate Change is happening. The wide-ranging, and often confusing,
measures and initiatives to mitigate and adapt to its effects have
an increasing impact on all of us, both as individuals and in our
working lives.
Any lingering doubt about the science of climate change seems
now to have been dispelled. The recent report from the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change concludes that it is very likely that global
warming is being caused by mankind, and warns that we may only have
ten years left to avert environmental catastrophe.
Arguably, it has been at the individual consumer level that the
message has been slow to sink in, as many of us find it difficult
to change our behaviour. In contrast, many UK businesses have been
grappling for some time now with the risks, as well as the opportunities,
which have emerged over the last few years, as the legal and regulatory
framework underpinning the response to the climate change threat
has taken shape.
In response to the growing demand for legal services relating to
this new legal and regulatory framework, as well as in the broader
sustainability arena, Martineau Johnson has brought together specialists
with a wide range of skills and disciplines, to provide tightly
focussed services, which respond to the full range of climate change
and sustainability initiatives. These encompass areas such as renewable
energy, clean technology, emissions trading, biofuels, energy from
waste, metering, energy security and urban regeneration.
For some years now, Martineau Johnson has been concentrating its
resources in six key sectors of the UK economy - banks & funds,
capital projects, education, energy, growth companies and private
capital & charities. Our expertise and reputation in these sectors
has given us a strong platform from which we can help our clients,
in a proactive and creative way, to meet what are quite complex
challenges, and to grasp the emerging opportunities.
On this site, we aim to illustrate the ways in which we are helping
our clients in this vital and challenging area.
